Monday April 8, 2013 Tel Aviv: The Israeli cabinet has a secret meeting to give the final Go Orders for Operation Jericho. The plan was to force the Americans to go to war against Syria and Iran so Israel can seize parts of Lebanon and Syria. After they seize the Litani river in Lebanon which has an annual flow of almost 250 billion gallons (946,352,945 Cubic Meters), they plan to expel the Palestinians from Jerusalem, the West Bank and Gaza. The Israelis plan to justify their invasions of Lebanon and Syria by having operatives inside Syria launch poison gas missile attacks at Syria’s second largest city Aleppo and at Israel making sure they do not kill any Israelis but cause a significant loss of life in Syria. Israeli mechanized units have been alerted and pre-positioned near the Lebanese border. They were told to bypass Hezbollah and to not stop until they seize the Litani river. The plan is to use a combination of American bunker buster bombs and napalm to take out Hezbollah’s underground tunnel network. The Israelis learned in the 2006 Lebanese war that her forces could not successfully dig out even a few thousand dedicated soldiers.
Tuesday April 9, 2013 Washington:At Obama’s Terror Tuesday meeting attended by his Chief of Staff and his senior political adviser decided to use a drone strike to take out the highest ranking leaders of Al Qaeda who were immediate;y available. Ayman al-Zawahiri, the Egyptian surgeon and new Al Qaeda leader, had been in Pakistan but a rumor said he was on the move. A month earlier two Pakistanis who were paid in gold coins said separately that Zawahiri had been taken out of Pakistani by the Iranians who wanted Al Qaeda to work more closely with Hezbollah. The rumor had actually been created by a Pakistani politician who wanted to reduce the number of American drone strikes in his country. All those deaths from the skies had been angering his voters for several years. Being a politician he paid off the two men with political favors. In a separate incident a Lebanese businessman had been kidnapped and taken to a secret base in Saudi Arabia. He was tortured until he confessed that he had been making preparations for a series of secure locations for Zawahiri to stay in Lebanon for 10 days starting on Friday April 5th. US satellite and electronic eavesdropping facilities had been working 24 hours a day to confirm Zawahiri’s presence in Lebanon ever since. The Terror Tuesday meeting was stacked with politicians and attended by John Brennan’s successor who lacked the clout to tell the men who were not trained in intelligence that this whole story of Zawahiri in Lebanon did not pass the Giggle test. The deciding factor was a satellite photo of a Muslin cleric entering one of the three buildings named by the American torture victim. A computer analysis of the photo produced an 80% probability that the man was identical to the latest CIA photo of Zawahiri taken several years before. To make sure they got their man and a quota of at least 100 bodies to crowd all the protests and turmoil in the press they decided to take out three locations with two Hellfire missiles each.

The Americans fire every Patriot missile they have and scramble their jets at Incirlik Air Base in Turkey.

They order their planes away from combat towards Afghanistan having previously decided to save them for the second wave and to rely on their missiles in the first wave. They targeted American carriers and cruisers in the Persian Gulf with their latest version of Fateh 110 Mach 3.5 SRBM which has a range of 300 Kms (186 miles). They have shared it with their brothers in Syria. These missiles aimed at the larger American ships had Fuel Air Explosive (FAE) warheads. Fires and explosives both require oxygen. Conventional bombs are 3/4ths filled with oxygenates that enable the bomb to explode. A FAE has two explosions about 25 milliseconds apart. The first one forces a fuel nixture out into the atmosphere. The second explosion ignites the fuel using the oxygen from the surrounding atmosphere. It has 3 to 4 times the punch of a conventional bomb. It sends out shock waves and burns up all the oxygen in a radius of half a mile (.8 Km) or more. Their strategy was to overwhelm the American ships with incoming missiles from hundreds of fast boats, helicopters and planes as well as the shore. The drones nearest the cruisers and carriers fired their missiles at the radar and the control rooms. The American ships were devastated and were all sinking within two minutes. Within 5 minutes every one of the 35 American military bases in the region had been hit multiple times with FAEs. The American jets in the air had no bases where they could return to safely refuel. The Iranians had ordered attacks by their allies at what was left of the American bases. Some pilots heeded the calls of help from American ground forces in Iraq. Others flew directly to Turkey. Others went on suicide missions against Iran where they were met with missile fire from the Iranian S-300. HQ-9, HQ7, SA 29 (Tor M1). SA 22 SA 6. SA 5, SA 2 and Rapier missiles. Most went to assemble in Turkey as they knew the fleet in Diego Garcia would be nuking Iran in a matter of minutes.

When they announce that Israeli radar has picked up incoming missiles from Pakistan, everyone in the room knows this means Israel will take a direct hit from multiple thermonuclear bombs. An American Naval Intelligence captain decided to get things going so he revealed the Pentagon’s best estimate of where the six Israeli nuclear armed Dolphin class submarines were. The Russian and American military machines combined forces to sink all of the Israeli subs. One sub off the European coast had fired missiles at Rome, Berlin, Paris, London and St Petersburg before an American missile destroyed it. Another submarine was allowed to fire 7 missiles off the coast of Iran before an American missile struck it. The sub was allowed to destroy Iran as revenge for American losses over the past few minutes. All of the other Israeli submarines were sunk by the Russian and American military. The thermonuclear exchange between Pakistan and India raised the radiation count in the northern hemisphere to unacceptable levels. Private planes filled with billionaires sought refuge in Patagonia and Australia. Million dollar bribes were paid. Cancer rates went astronomically upwards. American leaders took refuge in underground cities and issued press releases saying the US economy was on the road to recovery. Above ground the dollar collapsed making it impossible to afford food with worthless paychecks and Food Stamps. Within two weeks every major city in America was destroyed by race and food riots.

Dear Blogger, congratulations on a brilliantly written piece of fiction that sounds much too realistic! In the best tradition of Tom Clancy, your technical details and attention to the fine points of a plot make this sound very plausible.
But, if I were your editor, I would ask you to reconsider certain parts of the story because they’re not quite as credible as others.
1) The United States has one primary interest in Eurasia (or as commonly referred to: The Middle East). That interest is oil. All strategic calculations would first begin with an estimate of the impact on oil and the international economy. Oil producing nations understand and share that interest. Therefore, many of the leaders mentioned would begin their calculus with this in mind. This doesn’t play a part anywhere in your piece.
2) The goal of Operation Jericho wasn’t clear but I assume you meant seizing up to and slightly beyond where the Litani River flows west, much like Israel did in 1978. Your article does not address UN Resolution 425, nor does it address UNFIL. Do you think it’s really likely that Israel would defy the United Nations? (I don’t.)
I don’t believe that Israel has the military capability to seize and hold the land between the northern border and the Litani River. I understand the historical issue of water consumption in the Middle East and I have no doubt that Israel would love to control all the Litani River . . . and for that matter . . . the Bekaa Valley. But it simply isn’t military feasible. They don’t have the air force, armor or infantry for a two-front war and that is certainly what they would encounter if they attacked Lebanon. There is no question, in my mind, that a war in the north would lead to fighting in the south . . . not to mention eruption of violence in the West Bank and Gaza.
Nor do they have enough soldiers to expel the Palestinians from Jerusalem, the West Bank and Gaza as your article suggests. This would violate so many United Nations Resolutions that Israel would lose its “victim” status on which it depends.
Nor is it clear to me (in February 2013) that they would have the political support inside Israel to pull off such a scheme. The right-wing is simply not that powerful.
Your Operation Jericho scenario also has the IDF by-passing Hezbollah fighters. That means they would leave several thousand heavily armed fighters in their rear and of course, north of the Litani River. The IDF can’t secure such a long logistical tail or defend the river bank against guerrilla incursions. .
It’s possible (though I don’t think confirmed) that Israel has already tunneled to the Litani River and is already using its waters. If it hasn’t, such a deal could be brokered through the UN (with Uncle Sugar picking up the tab). Much can also be done to increase recycling and desalinization inside Israel. Finally, the Israelis waste a good deal of water in their agriculture and civilian use. Many jewish homes have swimming pools while nearby Palestinian homes don’t have running water.
Overall, there are too many better solutions and too many military limitations for your Operation Jericho to be realistic.
3) The ideas that an American lieutenant could order a launch against Syrian jets or that a Russian field commander could order a launch . . . or that the Russians would go to war against NATO . . . are not realistic.
The Patriot missiles deployed in Turkey are strategic assets. I suspect launch authority comes from Washington . . . and probably the White House . . . not some 25-year old duty officer. The Russians undoubtedly have the same tight controls.
Russia has always opposed NATO missile deployments and countered with its own. That may be what’s happening here. Or it could be the Russians believe the Patriots are there to support an eventual attack on Iran. We don’t know. But what we do know is that Putin needs the West and it’s unlikely he would go to war over either Syria or Iran.
4) Syria doesn’t have 100,000 missiles. Hezbollah claims to have that number. What the Syrians have threatened in the past is that they would “launch” Hezbollah against Turkey (and Israel).
But is this realistic? Even though Turkey and Syria each have imperial obsessions in the region, would the Sunni in Turkey and Syria really go to war with each other? I doubt it. Would NATO allow Turkey (a NATO partner) to invade Syria? I doubt it.
5) Why would Israel drop a nuke on Damascus when it’s Hezbollah that’s firing missiles? That makes no sense. Wouldn’t this just make Hezbollah . . . and every other Muslim nation . . . even more crazed? Hezbollah is highly decentralized. Its command and control is not in Damascus but in dozens of villages in Syria and Lebanon.
6) The United States has Iran under 24/7 surveillance. When Iran begins arming missiles, arming and fueling fighter/bombers, preparing the navy, arming air defense batteries . . . all these things carry significant electronic and visible signatures. That would trigger instant alertness by the US and NATO. It could easily trigger preemptive strikes.
Probably the first thing attacked would be Iranian radar. Using cyber attacks, drones and cruise missiles, the US would seriously degrade Iranian capability.
How would Iran find US ships? The US does not deploy its capital ships inside the Persian Gulf. There it only deploys Coast Guard cutters, some amphibious ships, cargo ships and a few frigates and mine sweepers. The battle forces (especially the carriers and cruisers) are in the Arabian Sea and northern Indian Ocean. Iran could never find them.
And why would Iran attack Bahrain, Qatar and Saudi Arabia? Like Israel, Iran plays the victim card. Why turn on its neighbors?
Finally, on this point, the strike you describe requires highly sophisticated planning, electronic warfare and command and control. It requires extremely well-trained pilots. The Iranian Air Force doesn’t have any of that. It is strictly a defensive force and it could barely do that during the war with Iraq. It has only gotten worse since then. None of what you described could ever happen.
7) American and Russian military leave military leaders out of the loop and destroy Israeli subs? Totally ridiculous. Samson Option? LOL
8) As far as Netanyahu getting his ass kicked . . .
Captain Gabi better be a tough hombre because Netanyahu certainly is. He was in the Sayeret Matkal (equivalent of Delta or British SAS) and was wounded in combat. I don’t think anyone would want to go hand-to-hand with him even though he’s in his 60s. Besides, where are his body guards?
Part of the overall weakness of your overall peace is that you don’t allow for the divisions and contention inside the Israeli government. Netanyahu would never be able to authorize Operation Jericho without calling up the Reserves which would plunge Israel into a political crisis. Israel is not monolithic. Like the old saying goes . . . “two jews, three opinions.” All israeli governments are built on the basis of coalition because no party has even won a majority of votes (61 out of 120). If Netanyahu tried Operation Jericho, it would trigger an immediate vote of no-confidence. The first battle Israel would fight would be in its own Cabinet and Knesset. That wasn’t even addressed in your piece.
1 Israel has consistently defied the UN. Israel is talking more about Palestinian expulsion now that the General Assembly elevated the Palestinian status.
2 The total number of Syrian and Hezbollah is estimated at more than 150,000 with Debka Files saying it is 175,000. Most of these are short range and will only hit the border area. But after a few minutes. After the Israeli defenses are down, only 3,000 missiles will incinerate half of the Israeli population. That is why Israel will have to go nuclear early.
3 If attacked, Iran will attack the 35 American bases in the region plus their Muslim sponsors. They would only attack the royal families and their military assets.
4 It is the Petrodollar and not oil that equals Israel in importance. The US banks must keep the price of oil high to keep the dollar afloat. That is why the US goes to war against nations that sell oil for gold or for currencies other than the dollar.
5 In 2001 the Israelis gave Bush a list of 7 nations to invade. That list was reported by Wesley Clark. The only 2 nations left are Syria and Iran. When those two nations are done, the Israelis can do what they will to the Palestinians.
6 I wrote this because I think the US military gas told both Bush and Obama that they will refuse to attack Iran as that is suicidal. Only an accident or the Israelis will launch WW III.

8 Iran has been switching from liquid to soled fuel missiles so there is no prep time. Just launch. American jets can launch but in 5 minutes they will have no safe bases to return to outside of Turkey so they will have little time or fuel to do anything.

No way can the yanks launch within five minutes. There are normally two jets on standby at any base and they need at least ten minutes to get off the deck. The rest are generally being serviced or broken down. The yanks need at least an hour to get all their planes in the air.
